Teacher collaborator at IUAV Faculty of Architecture within the Visual Design Lab held by Gianluigi Pescolderung, Studio Tapiro.
The course is for second year students within the 3-year undergraduate degree in product and communication design.
It provides an opportunity to experiment with the diverse facets of graphic design learning from the concept of visual thinking as Arnheim intended it. It consists of nine theorical lectures each introducing a visual culture aspect. Each lesson is followed by a practical activity related to the theme carried out for one week. A three weeks long final project sum up all the concepts experienced previously.

Urban Genome Project logotype design in collaboration with Joseph Grima, editor and curator of the project, the artist Pedro Reyes and the research office Salottobuono.
The primary intent of UGP is to “map the code on which cities are written”, thereby assembling an index of tools for improving the urban environment, with a specific focus on political processes.The aim is to create a platform where users around the world can access ideas and improve their local urban environments.

Urban Genome Project logotype

The aim of the newspaper was collecting the most relevant activities of 29 laboratories taking place within the summer workshops every year. It was edited by the students inside the workshop I held, published and distributed daily to all participants, feeding the debate within the school community. I designed the layout of the newspaper.
Here you can see all the thirteen issues.

Design and setup for the exhibition of Wave newspaper during the final review
of Iuav Summer School 2010. Faculty of Architecture, Iuav University of Venice.
Thanks to Carlo Albertini for some of the pictures.

In July 2010 I was teaching at IUAV Venice University within the summer workshops of architectural design that take place there every year. Thirty teachers for three weeks full-time follow the work of around two thousand students, setting up a group exhibition at the end; panel discussions and lectures accompany the laboratory activities.
The aim of the workshop I held was to produce a newspaper collecting the most relevant activities of the other 29 laboratories. It was edited by the students, published and distributed daily to all participants, feeding the debate within the school community. Working with students was a really amazing experience but I enjoyed also the previous project phase, when I designed the layout of the newspaper. Here is the link, where you can see all the thirteen issues: http://issuu.com/waveiuav. Here some pictures as well.

During the weeks of activities I organized three lectures inside the workshop: Francesco Franchi, Art director for IL — Intelligence in lifestyle, Il Sole 24 ORE;
Holger Jacobs, founder of the London based Graphic Design studio Mind Design; Salottobuono, Architecture Design studio.

The last day I managed to accompany the students to visit the print shop in order to assist the newspaper printing phases.

Identity design for the summer workshops of architectural design at IUAV, Faculty of Architecture.
The use of a polyhedron (in this case a decahedron due to the name of the workshop) is related to the idea of thinking solids as complex objects such as the combination of simple elements. The event of summer workshops Iuav lends itself to be represented by this kind of objects. It consists of vertices (the teachers), edges which form the skeleton (the theme of architecture) and faces that can be imagined as the space where students are involved.
